Four dancers from downtown Renton’s Spotlight Dance Studio will perform at the Dance Educators in America-Washington Conference at Shorecrest Performing Arts Center Nov. 1.

The dancers are one of only 10 Washington groups chosen to perform. The conference performance is non-competitive.

The group was chosen after Spotlight owner and teacher Samantha Sullivan submitted a proposal.

Is she excited for the performance?

“Oh yes, absolutely,” she says. “The girls are a little nervous. It’s a very big deal to perform not only in front of an audience, but in front of people who teach dance.”

The four performing dancers are Alyssa Fung, 14, Kaitlin Dacanay, 13, Taija Scott, 15 and Amy Winslow, 26. They are in the Senior Spotlight Dance Company.

Sullivan choreographed the group’s performance piece, called “I am the Greatest.” The piece is a two-person dance-off.

“It’s a little lyrical, a little hip hop, a little jazz, a little modern — it’s meant to be a humorous piece,” Sullivan says.
