The state Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, June 28 in Kent about the proposed move of an opioid treatment program facility from Renton to Kent.

WCHS, Inc., which has operated the treatment program in Renton since its licensing and accreditation by DSHS in April 2002, requested the move. The company wishes to move the treatment program’s location to 1851 84th Ave. S., according to the DSHS. The new site would be larger and allow access by more people because of better public transportation services.

The clinic provides access to essential health care for people dependent on opioids such as heroin and OxyContin by dispensing medication (such as methadone or buprenorphine) and providing case management, therapeutic treatment services and medical oversight.

The program’s relocation must be approved by DSHS, the state Department of Health and federal Drug Enforcement and Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services administrations.

The hearing is from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Kent City Council Chambers, 220 Fourth Ave. S. Sign-in to speak begins at 5:45 p.m.

A hearing about the same move will run from 2:30-4 p.m. on June 28 at the City of Milton Activity Center, 1000 Laurel St., Milton. Sign-in begins at 2:15 p.m.
