It seems like fall sports just wrapped up, but local basketball teams start play this week. Check out some of the opening-week games for the area’s girls teams:

Nov. 29 – Hazen girls (11-9 last season) vs. Ingraham at home, 7 p.m. The Highlanders bring back star Airashay Rogers, now a senior. Rogers averaged 26 points per game last season. The Rams struggled to a 1-17 record last year.

Nov. 29 – Liberty girls (16-10) vs. Sumner at home, 7 p.m. The Patriots lost a couple of big seniors, but get Aspen Winegar and Sierra Carlson back. They take on Sumner, who finished 20-7 and made the state tournament last year.

Nov. 30 – Renton girls (6-12) vs. Holy Names Academy at home, 7 p.m. The Indians get a big test right away with the defending 3A state champions. Holy Names went 29-0 last year. Sophomore Taylor Farris will lead the way for the Indians.

Nov. 30 – Lindbergh girls (9-10) vs. Interlake at home, 7 p.m. Lindbergh’s Emily Graver returns for her senior season as one of the league’s best players. The Saints went 6-15 last year.
