The Hazen wrestling team finished fifth at the Region 2 3A tournament last weekend. The Highlanders scored 136.5 points, just behind Bishop Blanchet with 137. In other Seamount 3A action, Highline took third and Kennedy Catholic ninth.

Hazen’s Andre Faciane won a regional title, beating Bishop Blanchet’s Andrew Kennedy in a major decision, 17-8 at 160 pounds. Hazen’s Jose Ramirez also made state at 160 pounds, the first time in school history two wrestlers from the same weight class have made state.

Derek Nichols made the title match at 106 pounds, and lost to Justen Mah of Franklin, 9-6.

Zach Moore (113 pounds), Austin Clark (132) and Ramirez all took third. Daniel Karpman (138), Jeremy Guilbert (195) and Justin Russell (220) placed fourth. Jeremy Hazlett is a second alternate.

Lindbergh came in 14th at the Region 2 2A tournament with 28.5 points. Renton finished in 16th with 21 points.

Foster took 13th with 32 points. Tyee finished 17th with 18 points. Evergreen took 19th with 14 points.

In the girls Region 2 tournament, Lindbergh’s Abby Chufar made the finals at 124 pounds and lost to Caeleenda Johnson of Emerald Ridge.

Liberty finished 12th at the Region 1 3A tournament. Hamilton Noel won a regional title at 160 pounds by beating Mercer Island’s Blake Johnson in a 3-2 decision.
