Andrew Franco-Munoz, Steve Sholdra win district titles as Eagles take second, Renton fourth | 2A boys swim & dive

It was a record-breaking meet for both the Lindbergh and Renton boys swim and dive teams at the West Central District III 2A meet last weekend. The Eagles placed second at the meet for the second straight year, finishing behind just Interlake. The Indians placed fourth.

Sophomore Andrew Franco-Munoz won district titles in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100 fly. His time of 22.82 seconds in the 50 free finals, broke the district record. Franco-Munoz was also part of Lindbergh’s 200-free relay (along with Aaron Jacobsen, Sam Seid and Connor Guhlke) that won a district title. The relay swam a time of one minute, 33.44 seconds, which also broke a district record.

Meanwhile, Renton senior Steve Sholdra won district titles in the 200 and 500 free. Sholdra is also the state’s top seed in each of those events heading into the state meet this weekend. Sholdra’s time of 4:37.81 in the 500 earned him a win by nearly 26 seconds and is just two seconds off of All-American consideration.

Along with Adriel Paine, Aslan DaVault and Tyler Pascual, Sholdra was also part of Renton’s 200-free relay team that broke a 21-year-old school record in the event. The relay finished second and qualified for state.

Championship final competitors:

Lindbergh’s 200-medley relay (Jacobsen, AJ Lim, Timothy Ramos and Spencer Clair) placed sixth.

Lindbergh’s Guhlke finished fourth in the 200 free.

Lindbergh’s Lim took second in the 200 individual medley. Seid finished fifth in the event.

Lindbergh’s Jacobsen finished fourth in the 50 free.

Lindbergh’s Tanner Zornes placed third in the one-meter dive competition.

Jacobsen took second in the 100 fly.

Guhlke finished fifth in the 100 free.

Lim placed fifth in the 100 breast.

Lindbergh’s 400-free relay (Guhlke, Seid, Lim and Franco-Munoz) placed second. Renton’s relay of Paine, DaVault, Pascual and Sholdra took fourth in the event.
