Liberty’s Kendall Kauzlarich went 4-for-5 with a grand slam and 8 RBI on Friday but it was not enough as Bellevue beat the Patriots 29-27 in a wild game.

Bellevue jumped out to an early lead, putting up 7 runs in the top of the first frame, but Liberty would not be discouraged, scoring 1 in the first and 2 in the second to tie the game at 7.

In the third, things got crazy.

Bellevue posted 12 runs in the top of the inning, but again Liberty would not stay on the mat, racking up 11 runs of their own in the bottom of the inning to draw the game to within in.

In the fourth, bellevue added 5 more and Liberty got 3 of their own. The two squads each pushed two runs across in the fifth and then Liberty picked up two more in the sixth to make it 26-25, Bellevue, as the teams headed to the last inning.

In the final frame, Bellevue plated 3 while Liberty was only able to get 2 runs, falling just short of the victory.

Along with Kauzlarich’s stellar day, Liberty’s Taylor Thatcher went 4-for-6 with a double, a home run and 4 RBI while Jayme Shaw went 4-for-6 with 3 RBI of her own. Sarah Abraham, Alexis Sandman and Hannah McMullin also had 2 RBI each.

Abraham was named losing pitcher.

Liberty is now 1-5 overall to start the year and 1-4 in the KingCo. They are scheduled to play Mercer Island on Tuesday.
