The Hazen softball team survived the weekend, but Monday did not treat them as well as the Highlanders fell to Kelso 9-0 in a loser out game to bring their season to an end.
The Highlanders began the weekend on the losing end of a 16-0 score in their match-up with Central Kitsap, that saw the Cougars build an 8-0 lead by the end of the second inning and never look back, setting up a must-win game later in the day against Wilson.
Facing the Rams, Hazen scored first, pushing a run across in the top of the third only to see Wilson rally for four of their own and a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the inning.
But Hazen never gave in and rallied for 3 runs in the top of the fifth to tie the game and then scored two more in the sixth to secure the win and keep playing.
But on Monday, the Hazen Highlanders faced off against the Kelso Hilanders with the latter coming out on top 9-0 to end Hazen’s run through the postseason. Statistics were not available.
Hazen finishes the year 12-10 overall and 11-3 in the Seamount.
