Hazen tennis picks up wins over Highline, Foster

Hazen is now 4-0 to start the season. They are scheduled to play at Renton on Monday and host Kennedy Catholic on Tuesday.

Two more matches, two more wins for the Hazen girls tennis team.

On Friday, the Highlanders dispatched Highline 6-1 at Hazen high school.

First singles player Misa Takami topped her opponent 6-1, 6-0, while Andressa Chan won 6-2, 6-2 in second singles. Brigget Lee won her third singles match 6-2, 6-1 and Bruna Sacomi won her fourth singles match 6-0, 6-0.

In first doubles play, Highline got their only win as the Hazen team of Jennifer Nguyen and Alison Tay fell 2-6, 2-6. But the second doubles team of Jeanise Wong and Yena Nguyen won their match 6-4, 6-3 and the third doubles team of Melynda Phung and Kira Kusumi cruised 6-0, 6-2.

Hazen also picked up a win last Wednesday, beating Foster 5-2 in a match that proved closer at times than the final score may appear.

In first singles, for example, Takami was able to pick up the win in the first set 6-3, bet needed extras to win the second set 7-5.

Meanwhile, in second singles, Chan was upended 4-6, 4-6. But third singles player Lee won 6-1, 6-0, and Sacomi won her fourth singles match 6-4, 7-6 to pick up the slack.

In doubles play, the first team of Jennifer Nguyen and Tay fell 3-6, 1-6, but the second team of Wong and Yena Nguyen won 6-3, 5-7, 10-8, and the third team of Phung and Kusumi won 6-2, 6-3.
