Hazen baseball preps for postseason

The Highlanders open their postseason quest against Columbia River at 1 p.m. Saturday at Kelso High School.

The Hazen Highlander baseball team on Monday beat Tyee 9-5 in the final game of the season and will now get ready for the playoffs, which begin next week.

Hazen’s final win started with strong pitching by Ben Hoeper and the team picked up some clutch hits by Logan Ricord and Justin Tucker.

Tyee started to mount a comeback in the fifth to make it a close game, but Will Thordarson came in relief and pitched 2-1/3 innings to secure the win.

Hazen finishes the year 12-2 in the Seamount League and 13-5 overall, good enough for the second seed in this year’s playoffs, due to a loss to Highline that put Kennedy Catholic in the top spot.
