Lindbergh had just the right combination of trickery and talent to beat Kennedy Catholic 21-14 Friday night.
The Eagles (6-1 overall, 6-0 Seamount) came into the game tied with Kennnedy for first in the league and now hold that spot all alone with two games remaining.
The Lancers took a 14-0 lead after the first quarter, but Lindbergh bounced back with 14 points in the second quarter to even the score. Frank Cange scored on a 28-yard run where he took the direct snap. He later scored on a 48-yard pass from Matt Stuart.
Defense took over in the second half until Lindbergh’s Bakari Davis ran in from 41 yards out midway through the fourth quarter to give his team the lead.
Davis finished the game with 149 yards and on just 13 carries, good for an average of 11.46.
Lindbergh used the Wildcat package much of the second half, with Derek Herley lining up at quarterback and Stuart at wide receiver.
Herley rushed six times for 105 yards, with a long of 50.
Freshman Derrick Holt intercepted a pass and booted six punts for a total of 188 yards (long of 53). Holt also connected on all three Eagle extra point attempts.
Stuart, also a freshman, completed five passes for 90 yards and a touchdown.
Historical perspective
Since 2004, Kennedy has dominated Lindbergh every season except this one. The Lancers owned a 274-69 scoring advantage in the five games from 2004-2008. The closest game during that stretch was a 49-21 contest last season.
