Valley Medical Center, UW pact faces final vote

The final version of a strategic alliance between the Valley Medical Center and UW Medicine will go before the Valley commissioners for a vote Monday.

The meeting will start at 6 p.m. at the board room in the lower floor of the medical center, 400 S. 43rd St., Renton.

The commissioners for Public Hospital District No. 1 signed a letter of intent in January to examine the alliance with UW Medicine, designed to enhance medical services at the medical center.

The deadline to either accept or reject the agreement is May 31.

If approved, the alliance would take effect on July 1, although it could take three to five years for patients at the medical center to feel its full effect.

Monday’s meeting will start with public comment. Commissioners then will receive a briefing from the lead negotiator, who will go over the changes made to the agreement that reflect suggestions made by Valley’s commissioners.

The agreement also must be approved by the UW Medicine Board and the University of Washington Board of Regents.
