The family of a man who was stabbed in Issaquah last Friday is from Renton.

Issaquah detectives are investigating the incident, which left a 21-year-old man dead and a 19-year-old woman in jail on suspicion of second-degree murder.

At about 10:20 p.m. Friday, employees from the Swedish Medical Center Emergency Department in Issaquah called police to report that they were treating a man who had been stabbed. The victim, identified by the King County Medical Examiner’s office as Tomasz Matczak, died after being taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

About an hour after the initial call to police, the suspect arrived at the Windsong Apartments in the 1600 block of Front Street South in Issaquah, and officers took her into custody for questioning. She was booked into the King County Jail in Seattle Saturday afternoon and is being held without bail.

Issaquah police recovered a knife they believe may have been used in the incident, as well as Matczak’s clothing from the emergency department.

Court records show a history of domestic violence incidents between the two, including recent requests from the suspect for a protection order against the victim.

Issaquah detectives are working in cooperation with the Kirkland Police Department, the Washington State Patrol and the Coalition of Small Police Agencies Major Crimes Task Force. Issaquah’s last homicide was in 2003, Cozart said.

The suspect is expected to be charged by Wednesday.
