Renton driver, 92, kills pedestrian on Renton Maple Valley Road

A fatal traffic collision on Renton Maple Valley Road on Oct. 16 at approximately 7:40 a.m. involving a Renton resident resulted in the death of a pedestrian.

According to the Washington State Patrol, the driver, a 92-year-old Renton man, faces pending charges in the incident. It’s unknown whether drugs or alcohol were involved in the incident.

According to the state patrol, the collision resulted from the pedestrian being in the roadway.

The driver struck the pedestrian while traveling southbound on State Route 169, south of Southeast 174th Avenue. The pedestrian was in the lane wearing dark clothing, according to the state patrol. The driver served as the reporting party in the incident.

The pedestrian arrived at a stop on the right shoulder of the roadway. First responders declared the pedestrian deceased at the scene. Identification of the pedestrian is currently pending, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured in the incident.
