Renton schools introduce new, colorful district logo

Renton School District has a new logo. The new blue and green symbol depicts three students, one in each of the three levels of district education — elementary, middle and high school. These three students stand within the R of Renton. Graduation is pictured as a launched mortarboard.

Good news from Renton schools

• Eric Hougan, the business education teacher at Renton High School, has been recognized as an Emerging Leader by Phi Delta Kappa International, a leading association of education professionals. Hougan was selected from a competitive class of nominees based on his outstanding professional accomplishments grounded on the tenets of leadership, research and service. Hougan worked in business before becoming a teacher. He recently published a book, “The Road to Teaching: A Guide to Teacher Training, Student Teaching, and Finding a Job,” and is on the path to obtaining national board certification. He is also a board member of the Future of the Law Institute, which encourages minority and economically disadvantaged students to pursue higher education in law through various programs.

Interstate 405 lane closures planned

Dr. Mary Alice Heuschel, superintendent of the Renton School District, was recently named to the Board of Directors of the Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory (NWREL) in Portland, Ore. Heuschel is one of 29 directors governing NWREL, a private, non-profit corporation that works to improve learning through applied research, development and technical assistance.
