Kennedy scores on fumble return in final minutes to knock off Renton | Football

Even with a 27-20 loss to Kennedy Catholic Friday night, there are positive signs for Renton.

The Indians (1-5 overall, 1-4 Seamount) are the only Seamount team so far that’s been within 22 points of the Lancers.

Renton trailed 6-0 after the first quarter, but Renton quarterback Zane Brown connected with Marcus Clinton and P.J. Benedictus on touchdown passes in the quarter to give the Indians a lead at the half.

Kennedy (5-1, 4-0) came out in the second half and took the game over again after two rushing scores by L.J. Jennings. Jennings totaled 183 rushing yards and three scores in the game.

But the Indians weren’t done. Robert Reeves returned a fumble 61 yards for a touchdown with seven seconds left in the third quarter to give Renton a 20-19 lead.

Renton held on until Kennedy’s Chandler Breaux returned a fumble eight yards for a score with just over three minutes left in the game to put Kennedy back on top.
