October Youth of the Month | RENTON ROTARY

Rotary members recognize three Renton School District high school students each month as Youth of the Month.

October Rotary Youth of the Month are:


Andressa
Chan

Senior at Hazen High School

Chan holds a 4.0 GPA and is involved in Key Club, National Honor Society, Gordy’s Guides, Varsity Tennis, East HillString Lessons, Philharmonic Orchestra. She has received Most Outstanding Musician (Orchestra), Varsity Tennis Letter,Hazen Pride Award, Academic All-Star, Presidential Service Award, AAUW Certificate of Excellence and OutstandingJunior Award Participant. Chan works part time as a violin tutor and a Chinese tutor, and volunteers with FormosaAssociation of Student Cultural Ambassadors. She plans to attend a four year college to major in a STEM-related fieldand hopes to work in the pharmaceutical, computer science or pediatric fields.

Jamie Costales

Senior at Lindbergh High School

Costales holds a 3.97 GPA and has been involved in FIRST Robotics, National Honor Society, Eagle Crew and Key Club.She has received Varsity Letters in Robotics, FIRST WA Dean’s List Semi-Finalist, AAUW Scholar for Science, MasonicJunior Award, AP Scholar, Most Inspirational (Robotics). She works as a babysitter and volunteers with the RentonFarmers Market, Fairwood Lions Club and FIRST Washington. Costales plans to attend a four-year university to studybiomedical engineering.

Rudy Madrigal

Senior at Renton High School

Madrigal holds a 3.5 GPA. He has been involved in Renton High School’s football program and was the student liaisonfor the South Renton Connection. He has received the Matter of the Heart Award, Varsity Football Letters and aCertificate of Appreciation from the city of Renton. After high school, he plans to attend the University of Washingtonto become a registered nurse. He also hopes to serve as an officer in the United States Marines.

After being selected by counselors at each of the district’s three comprehensive high schools, a selection committee ofRotary members reviews applications and interviews students to identify those who will be selected as Youth of theMonth. The award is given to students who possess leadership abilities, maintain a good grade point average,participate in school activities and volunteer in their community.

The students and their parents are honored guests at a regular Rotary luncheon.
