The following information was compiled from Renton Police Department case reports.
A 21-year-old Renton man who was becoming increasingly intoxicated during the evening of Sept. 19 was finally arrested after he concealed two 24-ounce cans of malt liquor down the front of his pants.
The suspect tried to punch an employee of the Shell station on Rainier Avenue South who had told him to put the Steel Reserve malt liquor back on the shelf.
He left after the employee wouldn’t sell him a can of Mickey’s malt liquor. But he still had the Steel Reserve down his pants.
Several Renton Police officers converged on the area to search for the suspect. He was spotted hiding behind a bush on South Third Street on the other side of a fence.
The officer and the suspect stood next to each other, separated by the fence. When other officers arrived, the suspect agreed to jump the fence and he was taken into custody.
A can of Steel Reserve was found where he had been hiding. It was still cool to the touch and sweaty. He denied the can belonged to him.
Earlier that evening, a downtown casino had asked that he be trespassed from the business after he threatened employees.
The suspect was booked into the SCORE regional jail for investigation of second-degree robbery.
CASH STOLEN OUT OF PARKED CAR: About $6,700 in cash was stolen Sept. 15 from a car parked at a downtown Renton casino while the owner was inside gambling.
The victim, a 53-year-old Kent man, told officers he had secured his vehicle. When he left for the night at about 12:40 a.m., he discovered a shattered driver’s side rear window.
He had left the money in the glove box because he didn’t want to bring it inside. A digital camera also was stolen.
Officers planned to review security video.
WOMAN ARRESTED WITH $670 IN STOLEN GOODS: About $670 worth of merchandise was shoplifted from Frys Electronics on Garden Avenue by a 31-year-old Seattle woman who was down on her luck.
She concealed items in three purses she was wearing. She also picked up a can of pepper spray, which she kept in her hand.
A loss-prevention officer pointed her out to an arriving Renton Police officer. A records check showed she had a warrant for failure to appear on a theft charge.
Through tears, she told an officer she is homeless and was “forced to do this” so she could pay for a hotel room for her and her children. She planned to sell the electronics to pay for a hotel room.
She was booked into the SCORE regional jail for investigation of third-degree theft.
