Four Renton Schools, Lindbergh, Renton, Hazen high schools and Talbot Hill Elementary, have received Washington Achievement Awards, which honor the top performing schools in the state.
The Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction announced the awards Monday and all 401 award-winning schools were notified last week. The Washington Achievement Award recipients are the highest performing schools in the state based on three years of academic information reported in the Washington Achievement Index.
Schools were recognized for being top performers in six categories: “Overall Excellence,” “High Progress,” “Reading Growth,” “Math Growth,” “Extended Graduation Rate” and “English Language Acquisition.”The district’s “High Progress Award Winners” were Lindbergh and Renton high schools and Talbot Hill Elementary School. Hazen High School was one of the “English Language Acquisition Award Winners.”
This year’s awards used assessment data from 2011 to 2014, according to a district press release.
“Our teachers, students and support staff are working hard every day in every classroom in every school to positively impact student learning,” said Renton Superintendent Dr. Merri Rieger. “These four schools recognized by the Washington Achievement Awards represent that hard work and belief that every child can learn to high standards.”
This is the sixth year for the award.
“We know schools are doing great work and are getting better at serving all students every day,” said state Superintendent Randy Dorn. “These awards celebrate both achievement and growth.”
The award-winning schools will be honored at a state-wide award ceremony on April 28 at Spanaway Lake High School.
