Renton dentist ordered to cease and desist loyalty program

Program not registered with the state, as per law.

The state Office of the Insurance Commissioner has issued a cease and desist order to Renton dentist who is allegedly running an unlicensed patient loyalty program.

According to the order dated Oct. 11, David Ford Dental, located on Carr Road in Renton, was running a patient loyalty program that offered an in-office dental benefit program for patients who do not have dental insurance.

The program had a cost of $450 and provided two cleanings, two exams, X-Rays, two flouride applications and a 20 percent discount on most other services.

According to the documents, 65 patients are currently signed up for the program.

However, Washington state law requires anyone who us not engaged in the insurance business that accepts pre-payment for health services to register as a “health care services contractor.” According to the order, David Ford Dental is not registered as a health care service coordinator.
