Renton extends closure of Houser Way N.

The closure of Houser Way N. in Renton for the I-405 widening has been extended.

The Renton City Council approved an extension to the road closure of Houser Way N. between Lake Washington Boulevard N. and the Lowe’s business access material delivery road through May 15, 2026.

After first scheduled to take place between Jan. 21 and May 22, 2025, and then between Sept. 2 and Dec. 31, the portion of road was closed on Oct. 13. The delay was due to waiting for permitting and approvals with BNSF, according to the agenda bill.

The contractor has completed phase one of the construction of the 12-inch water main, installed temporary drainage to support drainage outfall construction, and started the installation of soldier piles for the east storm drainage structure.

Work that still needs to be completed before the reopening of the road includes completion of the east and center structure soldier piles, storm drainage structure excavation, jack and bore of three 42-inch diameter storm drainage pipes and phase two of the water main construction. The contractor’s schedule currently shows the completion of these activities occurring in mid-April 2026, and the road will open as soon as work is completed.

Detour routes lead southbound traffic onto Garden Avenue North, turning left onto North 8th Street and left onto Houser Way North. Traffic northbound on Logan Avenue North will turn right onto Garden Avenue North, take a left onto North 8th Street, and then left onto Houser Way North.

The closure is due to the I-405/Renton to Bellevue Widening and Express Toll Lanes project, which will add new capacity between SR 167 in Renton and Northeast Sixth Street in Bellevue. One new lane will be added in each direction and combine the existing HOV lane with the new lane to create a dual ETL system.
