Pete Carroll is officially the new Seahawks head coach.
What is being said about Seattle’s decision?:
- Steve Kelley of the Seattle Times is not pleased with the move. Money quote: “What’s happening here? When did this franchise become Cirque du Seahawk? Who’s running this team? Barnum? Or Bailey? Maybe they should put a big top over Qwest Field next season. How many mistakes can one franchise make?”
- ESPN NFC West blogger Mike Sando gives a take on how much power the team should hand over to Carroll.
- The L.A. Times’ Gary Klein has some information about what Carroll is leaving behind.
- Follow Carroll on Twitter.
Carroll was the head coach for the New York Jets in 1994. The team fired him after one 6-10 season.
He was against head coach for the New England Patriots from 1997-1999. He took over a Super Bowl team in the Patriots and led them to the playoffs twice. He compiled a 27-21 record, which wasn’t good enough to save his job.
Carroll’s success at USC was undeniable, but the big question still looms: Does being a great college coach translate to the NFL is any way?
