Quesnal nets hat trick in 8-0 Hazen win over Evergreen

Junior forward Zach Quesnal had three goals and senior Reyes Garcia added two more as the Hazen Highlanders soccer team cruised to an 8-0 victory over Evergreen Friday at Renton Memorial Stadium.

Junior Cooper Cerna had three assists, while senior Nick Smith had two of his own in the win. Sophomore Ethan Kim also added a goal and two assists.

Quesnal got things started fast, with a goal in the third minute. It was already the third time the ball had found its way into the Evergreen goal, though the first two were called back for offsides.

According to coach Ken Matthews, the early attack put Evergreen – who played Hazen to a 0-0 draw earlier this season – back on their heels and the Highlanders moved to exploit the Wolverine back line.

Senior keeper Jaime Martinez picked up the shutout for Hazen.

“What a night by our mids – two goals and eight assists,” Matthews said in an email. “The group started coming together a couple of weeks ago and they’ve worked nonstop.”

Hazen is now 7-3-1 on the year and 6-2-1 in the Seamount. They play at Foster on Tuesday.
