The Renton Reporter’s female athlete of the week for Sept. 29 is senior Mariah Burnett of Hazen High School, soccer.

Q: What is your favorite subject/class in school?

A: AP Stats. I really like how analytical it is. In Mr. Kao’s words, “the most non-math, math class.”

Q: Name your Mount Rushmore (Top 4) of movies?

A: “Black Panther,” “Barbie Movie,” “Mean Girls,” “White Chicks.”

Q:Who is the person in your life that has helped you succeed the most?

A: Definitely my mother. She got me into my sports that I do, and motivates me to try new things. She helps me stay driven and is the reason I try so hard in school, athletics and extracurriculars. She’s the best role model and who I look up to so I can be a better sister and friend.

Q: You’re on a long road trip, you stop at a gas station. You get one drink and one snack. What are you choosing?

A: Slushy and watermelon Sour Patch candy.

Q: Describe your pre-game ritual.

A: I have to put my gear on from left to right and I like to do meditations. (Conscious breathing and visualizations)

Q: Song you currently can’t stop listening to?

A: “Alright,” by Victoria Monet.

From the sidelines: Mariah has been dedicated member of Hazen soccer for the last four years. She helps lead the team with a quiet confidence that inspires everyone around her to work harder. Mariah’s speed and quick decision making has been pivotal this season and she’s helped the Highlanders to earn 3 shutouts in their first 6 games.
