Renton Rotary recently hosted its annual Operation Warm event to provide free, new coats to nearly 900 students throughout the school district.

Rotary’s goal is to provide free, brand-new, high-quality coats to students across Renton. Held Oct. 22, all students were welcome to come regardless of age or grade level.

Mayor Armondo Pavone and Renton Councilmember Ruth Perez, alongside other volunteers, helped prepare over 850 coats for the giveaway.

“‘Operation Warm’ makes a difference in the lives of so many kids in our community,” Pavone said. “Renton Rotary should be commended for their commitment to the children and families of Renton.”

Operation Warm provides more than just physical warmth. Without a warm coat, many children in need may end up missing school days.

This means they also miss the education they need as well as a free or reduced breakfast and lunch that fuels their bodies, said Councilmember Perez, who attended the event.

In addition, having a brand-new coat builds self-esteem and peer acceptance, giving children the confidence they need to succeed.
