Renton is honoring the class of 2020 differently this year in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. As students went to receive their diplomas, they didn’t join a crowd to toss their caps.

Instead, seniors wore their gowns during a walk-thru/drive-thru graduation ceremony allowing for family photos and celebrating individual graduates.

The district had been holding out for a move to reopening that would have allowed for in-person ceremonies. Instead, the high schools will have virtual ceremonies on YouTube available to stream 7 p.m., Monday, June 15. Link to the school district’s YouTube here.

It will include pre-recorded speeches performances and other graduation materials.
