Youth of the Month (May) | RENTON ROTARY

Rotary members recognize three Renton School District high school students each month as Youth of the Month. After being selected by counselors at each of the district’s three comprehensive high schools, a selection committee of Rotary members reviews applications and interviews students to identify those who will be selected as Youth of the Month. The award is given to students who possess leadership abilities, maintain a good grade point average, participate in school activities and volunteer in their community.

My Nguyen, senior at Hazen High School. Nguyen holds a 3.8 GPA and has been involved in FBLA, Key Club, Divina Voce, Sen-ior Office, Track and Drill Team. She has received Academic All-Star, placed in State FBLA competition and varsity letters in track and Drill. She works part-time as a cashier at Target. Nguyen plans to attend a four-year university where she wants to major in bio-chemistry. She is thinking of becoming a doctor but would like to spend time volunteering at a local hospital to gain better perspective of the career.

Yanni Zhang senior at Lindbergh High School. Yanni holds a 3.5 GPA and has been a member of Key Club, Environmental Club and Korean Club. She has earned Key Club Member of the Month, and National Honor Society Recognition. She volunteers with Kiwanis through Key Club to help set up and run events in the community. Zhang plans to attend the University of Washington to study medicine and hopes to obtain a doctorate to become either a cardiologist, neurologist or anesthesiologist at UW Hospital.

Jenny Loo, senior at Renton High School. Jenny holds a 3.9 GPA and is involved in Poetry Club, Renton Peer Mentor, Build On, and GSA. She has received Honor Roll, Microsoft Certificates and CTE Summer STEM award. She works part-time at the Family Fun Center and volunteers at the Renton History Museum and with YouthSpeaks Seattle. Loo would like to attend a four-year college or university to study either business or medicine. After college she hopes to work in either in business management or as a nurse.
