Local officials, community leaders, and local businesses and residents on Wednesday (May 14) will celebrate the completion of construction on Renton Avenue South between 75th Avenue South and 76th Avenue South.

The event is 6-7 p.m. at the northeast corner of Renton Avenue South and 76th Avenue South.

Officials and community leaders will speak and unveil the new Welcome to Skyway sign.

This work was envisioned by a community advisory group that met in 2001. In 2011, grant funding was secured followed by public engagement to design the sidewalk and a new gateway sign. Construction on the sidewalks was completed in 2013 and the sign is almost installed.

The goal of these improvements is to encourage shoppers to visit local businesses, and create a pedestrian and bike-friendly environment, according to a King County press release.

King County Road Services Division has partnered with the City of Renton, the community and businesses, in this effort to revitalize Renton Avenue South and bring a walkable welcoming “boulevard” feel to the area.
