Renton volunteer Dave McCammon is one of a select number of volunteers from across the state being recognized by Gov. Jay Inslee and Serve Washington, formerly the Washington Commission for National and Community Services (WCNCS) for his outstanding contributions as a volunteer.
McCammon is being recognized for his leadership in the Renton Emergency Communication Service (RECS) where he serves as Logistics Section Chief. The mission of RECS is to provide amateur radio and other communications support to the City of Renton when normal communication methods are disrupted.
McCammon’s work includes the maintenance of all amateur radio equipment in nine locations as well as a mobile emergency communications vehicle. He takes on leadership roles in many community events such as Renton River Days.
Since joining RECS, McCammon has come up with innovative solutions to increase efficiency and to engage other members of the group and community, according to a city press release. In addition to Dave’s work with RECS, he is an active volunteer with Renton’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program.
“The city is fortunate to have a volunteer like Dave,” says Deborah Needham, Emergency Management director. “The work he does is often behind the scenes, but is so important to RECS and to the City of Renton.”
The award will be presented at the 2014 Governor’s Volunteer Service Awards Ceremony in Olympia on April 21. The Seattle Mariners and Serve Washington will also recognize the volunteers at their Salute to Volunteers event held on April 21 at Safeco Field.
