Lakewood got a helping hand from the weather in beating the Lindbergh football team 43-13 Friday night.

The loss knocks Lindbergh (6-4) out of the 2A state playoffs. The game was played at Lakewood Stadium in Arlington, which features a grass field. Heavy rain made for muddy, slippery conditions – a factor that played against the Eagles’ speed advantage.

Lakewood struck first with a 26-yard touchdown run from Donovan Evans. Lindbergh answered with a 13-yard touchdown pass from Matt Stuart to Cam Callen.

Then Lakewood scored 21 straight points to lead 27-6 at the half.

Quincy Butler added a late touchdown for Lindbergh, on a 39-yard fumble return.
