Uptown Glassworks offering free class in Renton

Uptown Glassworks will present a free day of glass-blowing lessons on Sunday, May 23, thanks to a grant from the Renton Municipal Arts Commission.

Reservations for the lessons, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., are required. Call Uptown Glassworks at 425-228-1849, or stop by the Uptown at 230 Main Ave. S., Renton. Enrollment is limited. Minimum age is 12; no experience is required.

Each participant will work with Uptown’s master-glass artist, Chris Heilman, on glass making using exotic silver-veil glass. Participants will key their work.

“It’s a magical kind of glass,” said Heilman. “People are kind of infatuated with that.”
