Softball: Renton wins second straight game; Lindbergh and Liberty lose close games

Renton 21, Tyee 17

On the heels of a six-year losing streak, the Renton softball team won its second consecutive game Monday. The Indians out-slugged Tyee 21-17.

Renton, now 2-3 overall, did most of its damage in the second and third innings. Tyee took an early 2-0 lead, but Renton scored 19 runs in the next two innings. The Totems made it close by scored seven times in the fifth inning, but Renton held on.

Jasmine Bie pitched and picked up her second win of the season.

Renton’s Vanessa Ofrancia went 4-5 at the plate with a double. Sable Moton went 3-5 with a double. Amanda Kite went 2-3.

Kennedy 2, Lindbergh 0

Lindbergh lost to Kennedy 2-0 Monday. It was the second time this season the Eagles have been painfully close to catching the undefeated Lancers.

Lindbergh (6-2) is the only team to hold Kennedy to two runs or fewer this season, and the Eagles have done it twice.

The game stayed scoreless through three innings until Kennedy scored the game’s only two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Each team collected three hits.

Lindbergh’s Maniqua Sanchez struck out 12 batters and allowed just three hits.

Interlake 5, Liberty 4

Liberty couldn’t hold on to a slim lead and fell to Interlake 5-4 Monday.

The Patriots (4-6, 1-3) led the game 4-3 until the top of the seventh inning, when Interlake added two runs to take the lead.

Denise Blohowiak pitched seven innings for the Patriots, allowing nine hits and striking out six. She went 1-2 at the plate with an RBI.

Kate Faoro went 2-3 with two runs and three steals.
