Renton-heavy Seamount All-Stars to take on Nisqually squad coached by Renton’s Rick Comer

Due to state rules that prohibit a coach from coaching his own players during the offseason, Renton boys basketball coach Rick Comer, the Seamount Coach of the Year, will handle the coaching duties for the Nisqually team tonight in a game against his own players.

Renton will be well-represented at tonight’s All-Star basketball game, but they will be going up against a familiar face on the other sidelines.

Seamount League player of the year Jonathan Patterson and teammates Lavelle Smith, Donavan Saario and Justin Pienh, all from Renton, will be joined by Lindbergh’s Coline Malone as part of the 11-man all-star team.

No Hazen players were chosen for the team.

Renton finished fifth in the state this year after a season that saw them go undefeated until the final game.

The game is part of an evening of all-star basketball at Auburn High School for the Cloud 9 South Sound All-Star Basketball Classic, featuring all-star match-ups made up of players from the Seamount, Nisqually, Narrows and SPSL leagues.

The Nisqually-Seamount game is set to open the tournament tonight at 4 p.m. Admission is $8.
