The Renton Indians boys basketball team relied on a strong first half and then held on in the face of a Lindbergh rally to defeat the Eagles 75-69 in Saturday’s match-up for seeding in next weekend’s regional tournament.
With the win, Renton will be the fifth seed from the West Central District and Lindbergh will be sixth.
The Indians started hot, jumping out to a 23-13 lead after the first period and a 44-28 lead at the half.
But the Eagles rallied for a 20-12 third period to pull within eight as the teams entered the final frame, but Renton kept it close enough in the fourth to pull out the victory.
Lindbergh’s Kelton Williams led all scorers with 21. Renton’s Shandon Powell led the way for the Indians with 19 points.
Both teams move on to the regional tournament. Renton will open regional play against Clarkston at 6 p.m. Friday at Ellensburg High School. Lindbergh plays Wapato at 8 p.m. Saturday at Eisenhower High School in Yakima.
