Pete Carroll defended his decision to trade for quarterback Charlie Whitehurst at league meetings to Peter King of SI.com.

Carroll addressed the fact Whitehurst didn’t throw a regular-season pass in four seasons with the Chargers, and how the Seahawks properly assessed his talent with limited information.

“There are a lot of throws that Charlie had a chance to do over the last few years in the preseason. You can say what you want about preseason being the real deal. When you drop back and you throw comebacks, and you drop back and you throw in-routes and there are guys rushing you, you drop back and you got to move in the pocket and find a second and third receiver. That is definitely on the film clearly.” – Pete Carroll

Carroll also said the new staff liked Whitehurst coming out of Clemson in 2006.

Carroll compared adding Whitehurst to bringing in a “very high draft pick.”
