Mistakes cost the Lindbergh football team Friday night as the Eagles fell to Kennedy Catholic 41-28.

Lindbergh (3-3 overall, 2-2 Seamount) tossed four interceptions and fell behind early. Kennedy led 14-0 into the second quarter, when the Lancers scored a touchdown on a fake field goal to go up 21-0.

Lindbergh answered when Matt Stuart found Cam Callen on a fade route from eight yards out on fourth down to bring Lindbergh closer, 21-7.

Kennedy added another touchdown when Conner Richardson found Jason Thompson for a 27-yard touchdown on a halfback pass with less than  a minute left in the second quarter. Kennedy led 28-7 at the half.

The Eagles came out in the second half with a vengeance. Start took a big hit but found Calebse Cange over the middle for a 65-yard touchdown less than a minute into the third quarter.

On the first play of the Lancers’ next drive, Callen intercepted a pass and returned it 25 yards for a touchdown.

Lindbergh’s defense then forced a punt and Stuart hit Daniel Wiitanen on a 71-yard screen pass for a touchdown with just over seven minutes left in the third quarter to tie the game at 28-28.

From that point, the teams played tough defense, but Lindbergh seemed poised to take the upper hand early in the fourth quarter. The Eagles had driven 72 yards, but Kennedy intercepted a pass at the goaline to thwart the effort.

Kennedy then went ahead when Thompson threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Cole Madison with just over four minutes left in the game. The Lancers got a short field after another Lindbergh turnover and pushed another touchdown in to go up 41-28.

Kennedy’s defensive line, which features four players 6-foot-3 or taller, gave Lindbergh trouble all night as the Lancers tipped numerous passes. The Eagles were the first Seamount team to score more than seven points against Kennedy this season. The Lancers had allowed a combined 20 points in four league games.

Lindbergh will face Evergreen Oct. 15 at Highline Stadium, then close the regular season Oct. 28 at Foster.
