Liberty downs Skyline | Football

Liberty started the 2010 season with a bang, topping three-time defending state champion Skyline 39-34.

Jay Chakravarty and Chandler Jenkins each scored rushing touchdowns in the first half, while Trey Wheeler hit Jenkins for a six-yard touchdown reception.

Skyline’s offense was in full swing in the first half as quarterback Max Browne passed for 296 yards and four touchdowns. Jordan Simone caught six passes for 207 yards and four touchdowns in the first half alone.

The Spartans led 28-20 at the break.

Liberty came out swinging when Wheeler connected with Josh Gordon for a 71-yard score to pull the Patriots within two to 28-26. Liberty then took a lead later in the quarter when Wheeler and Gordon connected again, this time for 37 yards.

Wheeler tossed another touchdown and the Patriots held on to win 39-34.
