Kennewick knocks Hazen out of state tourney | Baseball

The Hazen baseball team fell to Kennewick 4-0 in the first round of the 3A state tournament Saturday. The Highlanders tied a team record for most wins in a season with 15, and finished the year at 15-8.

The Highlanders tied a team record for most wins in a season with 15, and finished the year at 15-8.

Kennewick scored one run in each of the first two innings, then added two runs in the fifth. Hazen struggled against Kennewick’s Stetson Pew and only managed two baserunners through the first six innings.

The Highlanders threatened one final time in the sixth, by getting two runners on base, but couldn’t get any home.

Jimmy Schmidt pitched a complete game for Hazen, allowing on earned run on five hits. Kyle Nelson went 2/3 with a double and a single for Hazen.

Kennewick went on to lose to Kamiakin 2-0 in the next round.
