Hazen takes second at districts, Lauren Kaufman breaks district record for second straight year | Swim & dive

Hazen followed up its Seamount League meet win with a second-place finish at the West Central III 3A district meet Nov. 4-6.

The Highlanders scored 198 points and trailed just Kennedy Catholic with 260.

Hazen’s 200-yard medley relay team of Kaela Nurmi, Leah Maier, Kayla DiMicco and Lauren Kaufman placed second.

Sophomore Amy LeBar earned second in the 200 freestyle. Nurmi took second in the 200 individual medley, while DiMicco finished third in the same race.

Kaufman won the 100 free and the 50 free. Kaufman’s time of 52.71 seconds in the 100 set the district record, breaking the record time of 53.30 that she set just last year.

Sarah McCormick placed third in the one-meter dive competition. DiMicco, who is qualified for state in both swim and dive, finished seventh.

Hazen’s Taylor Gale took fifth in the 100 butterfly.

The Highlanders’ team of DiMicco, LeBar, Cori Hall and Kaufman won the 200 free relay.

Nurmi finished third in the 100 backstroke.
