Hazen stays perfect in league play, Lindbergh tops Highline, Liberty takes out Issaquah | Baseball

After trailing much of the game, the Hazen baseball team came back to beat Evergreen 9-3 Tuesday.

The Highlanders (3-1 overall, 3-0 Seamount) are now a perfect 3-0 in league play to start the season.

Evergreen scored a run in each of the first three innings and led 3-2 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning.

Hazen scored three runs in the fifth on RBI hits from Travis Johnson, Jeff Beckman and Zac Kolterman to take the lead. The Highlanders added four runs in the seventh.

Johnson had three RBI singles and scored two runs in the game. Julian Le had two RBI and four steals. Kolterman went 1-4 with two RBI.

Beckman was dominant in relief. He walked his first batter, then retired the final 14 Evergreen batters in a  row, striking out 10.

 

Lindbergh 5, Highline 4

The Lindbergh baseball team edged Highline 5-4 with two late runs Tuesday.

The Eagles (2-1, 2-1) led 1-0 before the Pirates scored four runs in the fifth. Lindbergh answered with two runs in the sixth to take the lead back.

Bakari Davis went 1-4 with two runs, an RBI and a home run. Cameron Callen went 1-2 with an RBI and a double. Cooper Stevens went 1-1 with a run, a double and a steal.

 

Liberty 8, Issaquah 4

The Liberty baseball team took an early lead and won a rain-shortened game 8-4 against Issaquah March 18.

The Patriots (2-1, 0-0 KingCo 3A/2A) scored six runs in the top of the second inning. Issaquah scored three in the fifth to pull to within four runs, but the game was called due to rain.

Ryan Maio went 2-2 with an RBI and a run. Chris Weik went 1-1 with two runs.

 

Hazen 4, Lindbergh 2

Zac Kolterman’s sacrifice fly in the seventh inning put Hazen ahead of Lindbergh and the Highlanders won 4-2 March 18.

After Kolterman and Lindbergh’s Matt Stuart dueled on the mound for three scoreless innings, Hazen took a lead in the fourth on back to back doubles by Jeff Beckman and Kolterman.

Lindbergh answered with a two-RBI single by Stuart in the fifth.

Hazen’s Alex Gayte tied the game again in the sixth with an RBI single.

After Kolterman’s RBI in the seventh, David Green scored another run with a safety squeeze bunt.
