Body of Kent man found in lake off Coulon docks in Renton Sunday

The body of a 20-year-old Kent man was recovered just before 11 a.m. Sunday about 35 feet off the docks at Gene Coulon Memorial Beach Park on Lake Washington in Renton.

The King County Medical Examiner has determined the man drowned, but as yet hasn’t specified his manner of death. Because of that, the newspaper is not naming him.

The man’s vehicle was found at the park boat ramps Sunday morning by a Renton Park Department worker. Personal effects were found in the vehicle and a pair of shoes were found on the dock, according to Shawn Mendenhall, an acting battalion chief for the Renton Fire Department.

The man’s family was traced through the vehicle’s license plate. Family members told police the man had not come home the night before, according to Mendenhall. The medical examiner determined the man died on Saturday.

The family was at the park when the man’s body was recovered.

His body was found in 12 to 15 feet of water by a dive team from the Renton Fire Department. During the search, the Mercer Island Marine Patrol was on scene to divert boats away from the divers.

The boat ramps were closed for between three and four hours, Mendenhall said.
