Hazen rolls to win against Renton | Football

Renton got things going early, but Hazen reponded with 54 unanswered points as the Highlanders rolled to a 54-6 win Friday.

Hazen (6-2 overall, 4-2) has now won four games in a row since a loss to Lindbergh Sept. 25. The Highlanders will play Franklin for a chance to advance to the 3A state tournament. Renton (1-7, 1-5) meanwhile lost its second in a row to end the season.

Renton started the scoring when Dasshaun Saulls connected with P.J. Benedictus on a 60-yard touchdown pass. Hazen responded with a 17-yard touchdown run from Samuel Bunnell to take the 7-6 lead.

The Highlanders then outscored Renton 28-0 in the second quarter to put the game out of reach.

Play ended with 6:32 left in the fourth quarter due to a Renton injury. No update is available at the time.

Cody Taylor led Hazen with 16 rushes for 150 yards and a touchdown. Eric Jacobs had Hazen’s other rushing score. Travis Johnson completed three of four passes for 71 yards and two touchdowns. Both scores went to D.J. Perry.

Drew Kelly and Isaiah Talley each recovered blocked kicks in the end zone for Hazen touchdowns. Talley also returned an interception 57 yards for a score and rushed seven times for 63 yards.
