Hazen boys and girls beat Evergreen teams

Hazen 61, Evergreen 53

The Hazen boys basketball team got a scare from Evergreen, but still came away with a 61-53 win Wednesday.

The Highlanders (3-9 overall, 3-5 Seamount) built a 11-point lead through the first half of the game, then withstood a 15-5 run by the Wolverines in the third quarter. Hazen pushed out another lead with a 16-9 scoring advantage in the fourth quarter.

Caleb Frary and Tyler Searles each scored 16 for Hazen. Frankie Johnson and Andrew Winkles added nine points each.

The Highlanders are in sixth place in the Seamount, half a game behind Evergreen. Hazen’s next game is tomorrow night against Mount Rainier.

Hazen 69, Evergreen 52

The Hazen girls basketball started red hot and closed the deal with a 69-52 win against Evergreen Wednesday.

Hazen (7-4, 5-3) opened the game with a 24-7 run in the first quarter. The team closed the first half with a 19-point lead.

Airashay Rogers led Hazen with 24 points on 10 of 13 shooting. Michelle Wnek scored 11 points and stole nine passes.

The Highlanders are in fourth in the Seamount, half a game behind Lindbergh. They play next Friday against Mount Rainier.
