Early scoring spree nets points for Hazen

The following is a release from Hazen girls soccer:

Four goals in the first 20 minutes of the game and a stout defense earned Hazen soccer a 4-0 shutout Wednesday against Mount Rainier.

The Lady Highlanders got two goals from freshman Makena Kjellsen and one each from seniors Madison Kem and Nia Johnson. The assists came from Kem and Madison Taylor and sophomores Madison Kingett and Alex Reed. Junior keeper Avery Hanneman got her third North Puget Sound League shutout of the year.

“We had some really good play tonight. The ball movement was excellent and especially good the first 20 minutes. The defense held tight when they needed to,” said Hazen Coach Ken Matthews. “There was nice transition between the lines most of the game.”

Kjellsen was named varsity Woman of the Match.

Hazen JV soccer had a 6-0 shutout win versus Mount Rainier. Freshman Avery Pruitt got the shutout. Goals came from freshmen Mckayla Visick, Laci Johnson, Amanda De Boldt, Molli Canada, Olivia Conklin and senior Karlena Tran. The freshman class accounted for all the assists as Aiden Pruitt had three assists and Karlee Johnson, Avery Pruitt, and Johnson each had an assist each.

Johnson was named JV Woman of the Match.

Highlanders varsity is set to play Kentridge 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21 at The Joe. Hazen JV will play ahead of varsity beginning at 5:30 p.m.
