Boys basketball: Renton downs Rams again, Liberty picks up win

Renton 72, Mount Rainier 58

Renton was determined to not have the rematch be as close as the first game against Mount Rainier. The Indians beat the Rams 72-58 Friday night to solidify their lead on the Seamount.

The teams played a rescheduled game the previous Monday, and Renton (13-1 overall, 12-0 Seamount) won by just three points.

With two wins in a week over the second place Rams, Renton now has a 2 1/2 game lead in the Seamount with four games remaining.

Renton held Mount Rainier to five points in the second quarter and built an 11-point halftime lead. The Indians added to the lead and led by 22 after three quarters.

Mount Rainier scored 27 points in the fourth, but it was too late.

Joseph Holifield led all scorers with 22 points. Otis Stephenson scored a season-high 15 points. Achoki Moikobu scored 12 points.

Mount Rainier is still one game ahead of Foster (11-3, 8-3) in the league standings.

The Indians have Hazen (2/3), Evergreen (2/6), Highline (2/10) and Foster (2/13) left on the regular season schedule.

Liberty 45, Sammamish 42

Behind a big night by sophomore Chandler Jenkins and a late comeback, Liberty beat Sammamish 45-42 Friday night.

The teams were tied after the first quarter and at halftime, then Sammamish (6-11, 2-7 KingCo 3A/2A) pulled ahead by two after the third quarter. The Patriots (5-11, 2-7) outscored Sammamish by five points in the final quarter for the win.
