Baseball: Lindbergh overcomes six-run deficit to beat Hazen

Down 5-1 to Hazen with two innings left to play, things didn’t look promising for the Lindbergh baseball team Saturday.

But the Eagles managed to complete a stirring comeback, scoring six runs in the final two innings, and beat the Highlanders 7-6.

Nikko Kis-Young got on base after getting hit in the helmet by a pitch to start the sixth inning. Bakari Davis, Tommy Kawamura and Jordyn Perry each collected an RBI in the inning to bring Lindbergh to within two runs, 6-4.

Greg Gasperetti put down the Highlanders in order in the top of the seventh inning. After hits by Isaiah Williams and Bakari, and a walk by Kawamura, Derrick Hwang tied the game with a single to center.

Hazen intentionally walked Gasperetti, then Perry hit a sacrifice fly to bring Kawamura in for the winning run.

Bo Worgan pitched a strong 5.1 innings for Hazen, showing good velocity on his pitches. He allowed six hits and struck out four batters.

Perry started for Lindbergh and pitched five innings. Gasperetti picked up the win with two innings in relief.

Hazen’s Kyle Nation went 1-3 with a homerun and three RBIs. Nick Sharp went 1-3 with a run scored and two RBIs. Kevin Schwab went 2-4 with an RBI. Anthony Pina went 2-4 with a run.

For Lindbergh, Perry went 3-4 with three RBIs including the game-winning sacrifice fly. Davis went 2-3 with two runs and an RBI. Hwang went 2-4 with two runs and two RBIs.

With the win, Lindbergh moved ahead of Hazen by one game in the Seamount standings. The Eagles are tied for third, while Hazen is in fifth.
