Baseball: Liberty wins regular season finale, prepares for KingCo tournament

Liberty relied on two big innings to beat Mercer Island 11-8 May 8.

The Patriots (17-3 overall, 16-2 KingCo) won the KingCo by a three-game margin over Bellevue and Mount Si.

Liberty scored all of its runs in the third and fourth innings against the Islanders. John McLeod started the game, Dan Eck earned the win.

Troy Askins went 2-4 with two runs and two RBIs. Eric Peterson went 1-3 with a homerun and three RBIs. Nick Hart went 1-3 with a double and an RBI.

Liberty plays again Thursday in the KingCo Tournament at 7 p.m. at Bannerwood Park in Bellevue. The Patriots will face the winner of a Mercer Island/Sammamish playoff game Tuesday. Liberty would have to go lose twice in the tournament to miss state.
