After Hazen and Lindbergh split two one-run games earlier in the season, it was clear which team was better Tuesday night as the Highlanders won 11-1 in a five-inning game.
The West Central/Southwest Bi-District game was played at Heritage Field in Puyallup.
Lindbergh started the game well with a walk and two hits that led to a 1-0 lead in the first inning. But Hazen came back to score three runs on five hits in the bottom of the inning. The Highlanders then scored three runs each in the first three innings, building a 9-1 lead.
The game was briefly halted in the fourth when rain and hail showers poured down.
Both teams went scoreless in the fourth inning. Hazen added two more runs in the fifth on four straight singles to end the game by the mercy rule.
Hazen’s Bo Worgan was strong on the mound, allowing four hits and three walks in the complete-game win. He struck out six batters and needed just 92 pitches.
John Wall, Kyle Nation and Brenden Campbell all collected three hits in the game. Wall led the team with three RBIs. Nation and Justin Jacobs had two RBIs each.
The contest was loser-out, so Lindbergh’s season ends at 11-7 with a sub-district playoff win.
Hazen (13-6) advanced and played Mount Rainier Wednesday at Heritage. (Results weren’t available by the Renton Reporter print deadline.) If Hazen won, it moves on in the tournament and plays Saturday against Enumclaw or North Thurston. If the Highlanders lost, their season is done.
