ARTHUR PAUL TEITZEL

Toledo resident Art Teitzel, age 84, passed away April 13, 2009 at Meridian Care and Rehab Center in Meridian, Idaho.Born October 31, 1924 to Paul and Edith Teitzel in Hannaford Valley, Washington, he grew up in the Bucoda area, graduating from Boistford High School. Art joined the U.S. Army in 1943, was stationed in Germany and served in Korea during the Korean War.On January 19, 1951 he married Kathleen Boone. Art served 8 years in the military before deciding to return to civilian life in July 1951. He attended and graduated from Oregon Technical Institute in Klamath Falls, Oregon where his son, Mark was born. He and Kathleen and baby moved to Port Angeles, Washington in 1953 where daughters Penny and Dorine were born. In 1968, the family moved to Renton, Washington where Art continued in the Diesel mechanic trade. In 1986 Art retired from NC Machinery in Tukwila, Washington. In retirement Art continued to enjoy fishing especially in Alaska and clam digging. Following the death of his wife in 1994, he moved to Toledo, WA where he enjoyed the company of Betty Hinkley. Health issues in late 2008 resulted in his moving to his youngest daughter’s residence in Meridian, Idaho. Art is survived by his son Mark of Anchorage, Alaska and two daughters, Penny Hunter of Thousand Oaks, California and Dorine Taggart of Meridian, Idaho, eight grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. His parents and three sisters, Gertrude “Gert”, Lela “Babe” and Rosemary preceded him in death.Remembrances may be donated to the Veterans Hospital. A memorial will be conducted at the Fir Lawn Funeral Home in Toledo, Washington at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, July 10, 2009.
