Montevideo: Carolyn Sue Cantine Raynes died March 22, 2023 in Uruguay, the victim of homicide. Born in 1945, she became a cabaret singer in Chicago, IL and later earned a practical nursing degree while married to Thomas Schmidling (deceased). She was preceded in death by her parents LaVerne and Marguerite Cantine and sister, Kathleen Cantine. She is survived by her husband, William Alvin Raynes, formerly of Seattle, WA, son Christian Schmidling (Paula); granddaughters Theresa and Nikki; great grandson Charlie; sister Marguerite (Elizabeth) Cantine, brothers David (Karen), Christopher (Judith) and Michael (Cynthia) Cantine. The investigation into her death remains open.
