Public Hospital District No. 1 commissioners Wednesday (Jan. 21) will interview three candidates who have applied to replace commissioner Aaron Heide on the board.

The remaining commissioners removed Heide from the board on Jan. 5 because of absences from meetings and he had moved from the district.

The three applicants for commission Position 4 are Jim Sullivan, Dr. Terry Block  and Bill Erxleben. The hospital commission oversees the district’s taxes and other district functions not related to health care, with is overseen by a 13-member Board of Trustees.

The special meeting is at 5:30 p.m. at the board room at Valley Medical Center, 400 S. 43rd St., Renton.

The board will interview the candidates, then recess to a closed executive session to evaluate their qualifications. The board will then reconvene the public meeting to vote on a replacement.

The final item on the agenda is the nomination and election of board officers for 2015. Sitting on the board are Carolyn Parnell, Barbara Drennen, Dr. Tamara Sleeter and Dr. Paul Joos, the current board president.

If the commissioners can’t settle on a replacement within 90 days, then the King County Council would fill the vacancy, according to state law.

Heide now works in Reno, Nev., as the director of the Center for Neurovascular Care at St. Mary’s Medical Group.

He was elected in November 2009 to a six-year term which began on Jan. 1, 2010.
